Nottingham Wedding Photography – A Gatsby Themed Wedding in a Tipi
A 1920’s Gatsby Themed Wedding in Tipi
If you are looking for some 1920s inspiration for your wedding then take a look at Steph and Tom’s glamorous, elegant laid back wedding in tipi.
Steph and Tom actually got in contact with me on the back of a referral and from our first phone call, I think we all knew that this was going to be a match made in heaven. Their wedding was amazing. Full of laughter, fun, and lots of happy tears. It was laidback and high-end at the same time. Everything about the day was executed perfectly.
Getting ready for their 1920s Gatsby Tipi Wedding
The groom chose to get ready at home with his friends and my second photographer spent the morning with Tom capturing the usual groom escapades but amongst all that nervous excitement I think they’re all just dying to get to the pub before the wedding. The groom and the groomsmen all looked dapper in their Peaky Blinders style suits. They even had the hats!
Steph chose to get ready at her future mother-in-law’s house. When I got there she was all prepared with her shoes jewellery and dress ready to photograph and I asked her how she was feeling. She told me she was really calm, not nervous at all. She showed me where all of her things were in the upstairs bedroom, the room that her future mother-in-law had decorated especially for the wedding day for Steph to get ready in. Having three boys I think Tom’s mum was probably really excited at the prospect of having a daughter-in-law.
It was clear that had a lot of thought had gone into the details of the dress and the shoes. Everything had that glamorous 1920s feel. The bridesmaid’s dresses had the 1920’s sparkle finished off with a feather headband. They all looked absolutely stunning!
Just as we were leaving to go to the church Steph started to feel the nerves kick in and she looked terrified! I think the long drive to the church gave her time to settle.
The Church Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place in Saint Mary’s church at Attenborough. It was a simple but beautiful ceremony and the vicar was brilliant. Steph chose the traditional bridal March to walk down the aisle to. After the ceremony, all the guests made their way outside to make a long confetti aisle for the bride and groom. I love a fantastic confetti shot to start the wedding celebrations.
The guests then made their way to the tipi on the Parklands Celebration site. There was a big red double-decker bus waiting outside the church for them all.
The bridal party stayed behind at the church so we could grab a couple of Peaky Blinders group shots it was really good fun and once the bridesmaids and groomsmen had left Steph, Tom and I went for a walk so they could have some time together and so could we capture their first photos as a married couple.
The Tipi Wedding Reception
By the time I got to the Parklands Celebration site the party was well underway the drinks were flowing the guests were hugging and taking lots of selfies together. Everyone was having a really good time. When I asked Steph kind of meal they opted for she said
“Sit down meal – sharing family style! My parents have what they’ve named ‘ a bits and bobs dinner’’ meaning, using up all the random bits in the fridge, so of course, that’s our starter. We are family lovers, and we all love a weekly Sunday roast to catch up and being from Derbyshire, some good meat! Tom used to work for the caterer and gotten to know over the past years keeping with the family-friendly feel!”
The couple’s first dance was Johnny Cash- Nobody, played by their chosen band aptly named The Spinal Chords, made up of Steph’s fellow operating practitioners surgeons anaesthetists.
The evening party was such an amazing end to an amazing day. The atmosphere was like something out of a movie, great music, lots of laughs, a big fire pit with marshmallows on a stick, and plenty of food and drink. Outside the weather was still warm even as the sun faded.
Steph and Tom’s wedding has to be one of my favourite of all time. A beautiful wedding on a beautiful day with a couple who are just beautiful human beings both inside and out.
